About the Presenter
Peter Wiebe RN, GNC(C), BRE

Peter Wiebe of Geriatric Services developed the initial and continuing programs of a psychogeriatric treatment unit for the Salem Home Inc. in the city of Winkler, MB.

This unit is designed to treat clients whose behaviour is too disruptive in the nursing home and hospital setting. The treatment focus is on staff approach rather than tranquilizers. When an effective treatment plan is established the client is discharged back to the referring facility. After developing this unit he continued on as the Unit Coordinator and Outreach Consultant.

Twice, Peter presented seminars at the Manitoba Health Organization Annual Conference. He has also presented at the Canadian Association on Gerontology. He has co-authored several journal articles and a chapter of the book, Shelter and Care of Persons With Dementia. Presently Peter is self-employed sharing his knowledge and experience through his business Geriatric Education & Consultation Services. Since starting his private nursing practice, he has presented to health care staff in most major cities of Canada, from St. John's, NF to Victoria, BC. For a number of years he taught the physical assessment classes for LPNs at Red River College Pembina Valley Campus.

Peter is a recipient of the Tranquillity Chapter Clinical Practice Award for excellence in geriatric nursing. The Tranquillity Chapter is a Chapter of the Manitoba Association of Registered Nurses. He has received his Certificate of Gerontological Nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association.
